The UF College of Journalism and Communications’ Department of Public Relations and Alpha PRoductions, in collaboration with the Hispanic Marketing and Communication Association, presented “Diversity in Public Relations” on January 22. The panel-style discussion included four leaders and advocates of diversity in the communications field.
Weimer Hall’s Gannett Auditorium welcomed Cheryl Proctor-Rogers, APR from A Step Ahead PR Consulting and Coaching; Bill Imada, chairman and chief collaboration officer, IW Group; Barbara Bermudez, account coordinator, Ketchum; and Deborah Bowie, CCE, IOM, president and CEO, United Way of North Central Florida.
During the hour-long panel, panelist discussed inclusion of diverse races, ethnicities, backgrounds, genders and disabilities in communications and in our personal life. They also spoke about the need for individuals in the field to be open-minded and learning from others and experiences.
